FESCO Declares War on Electricity Theft, Arrests Over 19,000 Thieves Across Region

FAISALABAD: Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has taken strong steps to crack down on electricity theft in its areas, following the instructions of the Federal Government and the Power Division. According to a statement given to the media by FESCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Muhammad Amir, a total of 19,067 electricity thieves have been caught so far, and action has been initiated against them.

He further said that FESCO has formed special teams in all districts under its control, including Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Bhakkar and Jhang, to catch electricity thieves. These teams are working around the clock and constantly checking power lines to identify theft.

The FESCO (CEO) also mentioned that a total fine of Rs 2.95 billion has been imposed on the individuals caught stealing electricity. In his statement, Engineer Muhammad Amir also explained the different methods used by these electricity thieves. According to him, people are stealing electricity by directly tapping into the supply, using shunt systems, drilling holes in meters, and even hacking the meters.

FESCO shared more details with the media, stating that out of the 19,067 people caught:

  • 17,735 are domestic users,
  • 630 are commercial users,
  • 599 are agricultural users,
  • and 103 are industrial users.

Muhammad Amir has appealed to the public to take part in FESCO’s ongoing campaign against electricity theft. He urged people to report any suspicious activity around them so that those involved in power theft can be brought to justice.
